FAQ & errata
Rules interactions — Shooting & attacks (11th edition)
Does cover help against a weapon with [Ignores Cover]?It doesn't. A weapon tagged [Ignores Cover] strips the defender of any cover benefit for that attack. Because cover in 11th is a −1 penalty to the shooter's Hit roll, the keyword simply cancels that penalty out.
Do [Devastating Wounds] get stopped by an invulnerable save?No save of any kind stops them. As of the rules update that has carried into 11th, a Critical Wound flagged [Devastating Wounds] deals its damage straight through, ignoring armour and invulnerable saves alike. Note these aren't mortal wounds, so the damage doesn't carry over to other models, and any Feel No Pain roll still gets to try.
Does Feel No Pain work against [Devastating Wounds] and mortal wounds?Yes. A Feel No Pain roll happens at the moment a wound would be lost, no matter where that wound came from — that covers mortal wounds and the save-ignoring damage from [Devastating Wounds] just as well as ordinary damage.
How do [Lethal Hits] and [Sustained Hits] interact with a Critical Hit?Both keywords key off a Critical Hit, which by default is an unmodified roll of 6 to hit. [Lethal Hits] converts that hit into an automatic wound, so you skip the wound roll. [Sustained Hits X] hands you X bonus hits. One Critical Hit can fire both at once: the original hit auto-wounds while the bonus hits go on to roll for wounds as normal.
Can [Sustained Hits] or [Lethal Hits] trigger off a [Torrent] weapon? No. A [Torrent] weapon scores its hits automatically without ever making a Hit roll, so there's no Critical Hit for either keyword to latch onto.
Does [Anti-X] combine with [Devastating Wounds]?Yes, and the pairing hits hard. [Anti-X N+] turns any wound roll of N or higher against that keyword into a Critical Wound, and [Devastating Wounds] then converts every Critical Wound into save-ignoring damage. As an example, Anti-Vehicle 4+ alongside Devastating Wounds means rolls of 4, 5 or 6 to wound a Vehicle slip past its saves entirely.
Can [Twin-linked] be combined with a re-roll ability?[Twin-linked] already grants a re-roll on the wound roll, and you're never allowed to re-roll a die twice, so stacking a second 'wound re-roll' buff on the same weapon does nothing. Spend that other buff on a weapon that isn't Twin-linked instead.
How are wounds allocated, and what is the 11th 'fast dice' rule? The defending player decides where each wound goes, and any model that's already taken damage has to be topped up first. To keep things moving, 11th lets you roll saves of the same value together in a batch rather than one at a time; rolls for random Damage and for Feel No Pain still happen model by model.
How does [Precision] snipe an attached Character? When a [Precision] attacker wounds a unit that has a Character leading it, the attacker may steer those wounds onto the Character directly rather than the surrounding bodyguard. Without that keyword, the Character is shielded as long as any bodyguard models are still standing.
Can a unit split its attacks between multiple targets?Yes. As a unit shoots or fights, you can aim individual weapons or models at different eligible targets. Just finish resolving every attack pointed at one target before you start on the next.
Rules interactions — Movement, charge & fight (11th edition)
Can a unit shoot after it Advanced?Generally not — the exception is weapons carrying the [Assault] keyword, which may still fire after an Advance. Everything else has to hold its fire, though Pistols can always shoot at an enemy within Engagement Range thanks to their own rule.
Can a unit charge after Advancing or after Falling Back?Usually no on both counts. Certain army rules override this — the Orks' Waaagh! ability, for instance, lets them Advance and charge in the same turn. Falling Back also normally stops a unit from shooting or charging for the rest of the turn.
Who fights first in the Fight phase? The opening step belongs to units that charged this turn or carry [Fights First]. When both sides have such units, the player who is not taking the turn picks first; from there the two players take turns activating units, with the non-active player leading. Spending the Counter-Offensive Stratagem (2 CP) lets one of your units jump in out of the usual order.
Can you charge a unit you can't see?Yes — a charge doesn't depend on line of sight. You just need the target inside 12" and a 2D6 result high enough to bring you into Engagement Range without bumping into an enemy you didn't declare.
Can Monsters and Vehicles shoot while in combat?Yes, thanks to the Big Guns Never Tire rule. Such models may shoot while within Engagement Range — but only at units they're tied up with — and may also shoot after Falling Back, taking a −1 Hit penalty in either case (Pistols dodge that penalty).
Rules interactions — Characters, objectives & Battle-shock (11th edition)
When can I target an enemy Character? While a Character is being shielded by a Bodyguard unit, you can't pick it out as a target until every bodyguard model is gone (unless you have [Precision]). A standalone Character with [Lone Operative] is off-limits to ranged attacks from beyond 12" — but step inside 12" and you may shoot at it.
How is control of an objective decided?Add up the Objective Control (OC) of each of your models that's in range — within 3" of the marker, or inside the terrain area under 11th — and whoever has the larger total holds it. A Battle-shocked model contributes an OC of '–', i.e. nothing.
Can a Battle-shocked unit perform Actions or use Stratagems? It can't. Battle-shock drops the unit's OC to '–', shuts it out as a Stratagem target, and stops it starting or continuing Actions. Under 11th the condition sticks around rather than wearing off on its own — the unit has to pass a recovery test in a future Command phase to shake it.
Rules interactions — Stratagems & Command Points (11th edition)
How many Stratagems can affect one unit in a phase?Just one, under 11th — a given unit can gain the benefit of a single Stratagem in any one phase. Since Command Re-roll counts as a Stratagem in its own right, on that unit you have to pick between taking the re-roll and using some other buff that phase.
Can both players use the same Stratagem in a turn?Yes, because Stratagems belong to each player separately. Either player may use a particular Stratagem inside its timing window (a few are limited to once per turn or phase by their own wording), and one player using it has no bearing on the other using their own.
